Photo by Kiernan BoyleIf you want to start creating your success today, there is one very important thing you need to do.
If you can do this, it can spell the difference between a life of continuous success and a life of constant regrets.
But first let me tell you a story about…
The Deliberate Underachiever
The Deliberate Underachiever wasn’t really a loser in the beginning.
In fact, she always won everything.
She was so confident about herself and her capabilities that the moment she decided to undertake something, whether it was a competition, a project or a mission, she always knew she would be success. And she always was.
But she soon found out that being successful wasn’t great as she thought it would be.
Although she was happy about her successes, other people were not happy for her. They hated her for being successful. They rejected her and put her down.
This made her so sad that she made a decision, from then on she would deliberately be an underachiever.
“It’s okay if I don’t achieve my goals anymore,” she thought. “At least I won’t be attracting so much attention and criticism. People won’t hate me and I’ll just be a regular person just like everyone else.”
So she coursed through life like a wallflower. Always staying at the sidelines and never taking the lead. But she wasn’t happy because she knew she could achieve something greater.
Deep inside, she knew she was meant to be a success.
Years later, the Deliberate Underachiever realized she wanted to change her life. She was no longer going to think about what other people would say. This time she wanted to go after her goals and do it for herself.
But whenever she tried to do something, she was haunted by doubt and fear.
The Underachiever mindset had gotten a good grip on her and now she lacked confidence in herself.
At the back of her mind, a voice taunted her, “Are you sure you want to do this? What if the past happened again?”
Are you a Deliberate Underachiever? Are you haunted by past experiences that made you think you don’t deserve to be a success?
I know I was.
But if I wanted to move on, I needed to remind myself that I deserve to a be a success.
You deserve to be a success.
And if you want to start creating your success, now is the best time to do it.
All you need to do is start with one step. I’m not saying it’s simple, because it may not be for a lot of people. But if you really want to change your life then it’s a challenge you need to overcome:
Let go of your past.
Werner Erhard put it this way:
“Create your future from your future.”
Consider this, when you create your future from your future, you’ve got a clean slate.
But more importantly, you can be anybody you want and you can achieve as much success as you want.
Your imagination and your commitment to action are the only limits.
Free yourself from your past because if you really think about it, it no longer exists. It’s gone and it doesn’t really matter. You’re the only one who keeps recalling it and making it come back.
What matters more is what you do right now, today.
Achieving success means you need to move forward and you can’t do that if you keep on stepping back.
So let go of past regrets and focus on the future possibilities.
Whenever you find yourself lamenting about what you did wrong or what you didn’t do, flip your thoughts:
Think about what you can do right, and what you can do right now.
Be positive and be proactive.
Start creating your success today.
Have you let go of your past?

@Writer Dad: Good for you, Writer Dad.
It’s still a challenge for me sometimes. This post is actually me talking to myself.
Thanks for being the first to comment. You make this blog feel alive.

That is a difficult one, but I am happy to say that I finally figured out that brooding over mistakes of the past was hindering my potential for happiness. So I got to the point that I accepted what I could not change, and made a fresh start for myself. It has been wonderful, and I haven’t looked back.

Thanks. I needed that. I was always picked on for doing really well in school, and then decided that it was easier not to shine. At least that way I’d have friends. Now I’m much older and slowly remembering how talented I am. I found this blog by accident, but this post is like a confirmation that I’m on the right track.
Thanks again.
